Former Miami broker Adolfo Vega is accused of stealing two months’ rent, totaling $2,300, from a client one day after his Realtor’s license expired, according to CBS Miami. Vega allegedly advertised a Miami Lakes apartment on Craigslist and told the interested party that a security deposit of one month’s rent, as well as the first and last month’s rent would be required by the landlord. Vega admitted to pocketing all but one third of the money and is being charged with a scheme to defraud and with grand theft. The incident has caused Miami police to issue a consumer alert, since others may have been defrauded. “I’m just glad that the cops caught him,” said the victim of the $2,300 theft, who was eventually able to move into the apartment. “Each month, I pay a little extra to make up for the deposit money that was not paid.” [CBS Miami]
