MIA terminal could become large retail complex

Plans to transform Miami International Airport’s Landside Terminal into a nine-story, 160-foot shopping mall with hotel and office space have been proposed, according to Miami Today. The project comes as Miami experiences a post-recession retail renaissance with major commercial developments taking over the Design District and downtown.

“It would be a large retail development unlike what we have in travel anywhere in the United States,” said Jose Ramos, a county aviation department employee. At the same time, construction on MIA’s North Terminal, which has been ongoing since 1998, is scheduled to be completed this month.
