“Burn Notice” gets burned on lease for Miami production space

A new public park set to replace the Coconut Grove Exposition Center is bumping the hit cable television series Burn Notice out of its 107,000-square-foot current production space, Miami Today reported. On Thursday, City of Miami commissioners will consider refusing to renew the show’s lease at 2700 South Bayshore Drive, which ends in October.

The move has angered some who see the show, which is viewed by some five million people, as an economic resource for Miami and fear that it might leave. The city receives $240,000 from the USA Network every year and the show spends approximately $100 million in Miami each season — nearly $63 million of which represent wages.  “It’s very important to keep them here,” said Bruno Barreiro, Miami-Dade Commissioner. “We need to work with them to create conditions that induce them to stay here, to invest, and to grow.” [Miami Today] — Christopher Cameron
