The Port of Miami (PortMiami) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have agreed upon a construction deal, PortMiami announced today. The deal means the planned Deep Dredge project, which will allow the port to host so-called superships, can go out for bid. “The project agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is the final step prior to advertising for the construction contract,” said Bill Johnson, director of PortMiami. “The agreement solidifies our partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the agency that will manage the project.” Last month, President Barack Obama announced a series of moves aimed at speeding up the pace of projects at ports across the U.S, including in Miami. — Alexander Britell
