Miami officials show support for soccer stadium plan

A plan that transforms a landfill into an internationally competitive soccer stadium received approval from some county officials and commissioners this week, despite lacking funds, Miami Today reported. The plans give a general outline for developing 47 acres at 9000 NW 58th Street in Miami-Dade into a soccer park. Currently neither the county nor the city are being asked to contribute funds to the project. Rather, the resolution wants permission from the Department of Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces to send out requests for proposals.

“We have been trying to attract major soccer and to one day have a team in our community,” Jose Diaz, a sponsor of the plan, said. “This is us trying to be part of the world cycle of football and to bring it home.” [Miami Today] – Christopher Cameron
