Boca hospital seeks rezoning to allow for expansion
The Boca Raton Regional Hospital wants to create a medical center district that would include dormitory-style housing and extend the height of its buildings — but it needs City Council permission first.
The hospital, located at 800 Meadows Road, proposed erecting 15-story buildings and reducing the number of parking spaces it’s required to have based on the square footage of future office space. The sticking point? The single-family homes nearby. The current rule caps heights at two-and-a-half stories within 250-feet of residences, Boca City Manager Leif Ahnell said.
The City Council, which heard a presentation on the proposal Monday, intends to talk it over with the hospital board on Nov. 1. But not everyone is on board: Council member Anthony Majhess called the proposal “egregious” and warned the hospital would have too big an impact on the surrounding residential area.
