Baptist Health South Florida plans to build a $400 million cancer center on its main campus.

Construction of the Miami Cancer Institute is scheduled to begin this July, South Florida Business Journal reported. The nonprofit is looking to consolidate its cancer research, outpatient services and advanced technologies in one facility. The 370,000-square-foot center would include the first proton therapy center in South Florida.

The project should be completed in 2016. Once open, the center would add more than 1,000 positions to the nonprofit.

Building plans also include two parking garages with 1,400 spaces. Architecture firm ZGF Architects designed the facility. [South Florida Business Journal]Eric Kalis
