Miami Beach commissioners are taking on so-called “party homes” in their upcoming Wednesday meeting.

On the agenda: making advertisements for short-term rentals of residential properties illegal.  Commissioners believe such a measure will reduce public parties at private homes.

Commissioner Ed Tobin, who backs the plan, called it “one more tool” to discourage the disruptive practice, according to the Miami Herald.

From 2012 to 2013, 189 notices of violations were issued to luxury homes rented out for parties.

“One of the challenges faced by code staff has been the level of proof required by the special master; where the advertisement of the illegal short-term rental may only be used as part of the body of evidence to adjudicate illegal short-term rentals,” according to a city memo, cited by the Miami Herald.
