Hollywood is poised for a rebirth through new development.

Old buildings will make way for new ones as city officials and developers hope to re-energize the city. The hope is not only to bring in new buildings, but a new vibrancy through retail spaces and residential units that will give the municipality a facelift, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

The Great Southern Hotel headlines a number of sites that will be demolished and redeveloped into new apartment towers around Young Circle.  As will the Hollywood Bread Building and possibly the Publix plaza.

In the case of the Great Southern Hotel, the project is a decade in the making, as legal hurdles, the recession and political pressure to save the 90-year-old hotel stalled progress.

Some members of the City Commission feel Hollywood is poised to benefit from those who are priced out of Miami-Dade.
