Donald Trump has some Doral locals up in arms after having a fence of bushy trees installed along the perimeter of the Trump National Doral golf complex.

Trump argues the trees give a feeling of serenity, but neighbors say that Trump has robbed them of their unobstructed views of the fairways, according to the Miami Herald.

Some residents even claim they have a legal right to golf views based on agreements between the site’s previous owner and the developer. However, Trump attorneys say those promises aren’t binding.

“Most people are happy when I plant trees. They feel much more secure without golf balls smashing into their windows,” Trump told the newspaper. “Look, I’m looking to build one of the great resorts of the world. You can’t be standing on a hole and looking at someone else’s hanging laundry, barbeque pit, or garbage cans which are stored in the back of the houses. These are beautiful trees.”

Trump bought the course site out of bankruptcy in 2012. He says the agreements between the original developer and the former course owner are extinguished.

But that line isn’t going over well with residents.

“We all paid an extra amount in the thousands of dollars, and now he is cutting off our view and our enjoyment,” said Judith Roche, a longtime Doral resident. “He’s selfish. He totally ignored the welfare of thousands of Doral citizens. That’s the crux of our position.” [Miami Herald]Christopher Cameron
