All Aboard Florida steams ahead with downtown hub
On the same long-vacant site where Henry Flagler built his little Miami train depot more than a century ago, All Aboard Florida is hoping to establish a new urban hub.
The privately financed passenger-rail service is moving ahead with its MiamiCentral project, according to the Miami Herald. The center will including a food market, shops, restaurants, offices and two residential towers with 800 rental apartments affordable to people who work in the neighborhood.
All Aboard executives hope to break ground by the end of the year, a timetable that county officials say appears doable.
“We’re going to dramatically change what downtown Miami looks like 24 to 36 months from now, and in an unprecedented way,” All Aboard president Michael Reininger told the newspaper. [Miami Herald] – Christopher Cameron
