Sunshine State ranks 22nd worst state to retire in

It looks like Florida’s sunny beaches, lush golf courses and abundance of retirement communities aren’t enough for retirees, according to a recent list of the best and worst states to retire in.

Florida ranked as the 28th best, or 22nd worst, state for retirement, according to a Bankrate.

The list used the cost of living, state and local tax rates, health care, crime and weather to rank the U.S. states.

Florida ranked 18th for wellbeing — how satisfied residents 65 and older are with their surroundings, according to a Gallup index — and 20th for its tax burden. The sunshine state lost points for its 12th highest crime rate in the U.S. and its health care quality, which was 16th worst.

Wyoming was ranked as the best state for retirement and Arkansas the worst, according to the list. — Katherine Kallergis
