Claudia Potamkin, the ex-wife of South Florida auto magnate Alan Potamkin, has just sold her Coconut Grove penthouse for $8.1 million, The Real Deal has learned.

Unit 3102 at Grovernor House was originally put on the market in 2012 with an asking price of nearly $10 million.

It was first purchased by Alan Potamkin in 2007 for $6.3 million. He then transferred ownership to Claudia in 2010, right around the time that their divorce battle began heating up.

Potamkin bought the 6,920-square-foot residence raw, with its only remarkable feature being a 270-degree view from Biscayne Bay to Coral Gables.

Claudia took charge of making the unit a home and brought on the design firm Holmes, Newman & Associates to help her do it, the South Florida Business Journal reported in 2012. She removed the dropped ceiling to add space, rearranged walls and put in all-new flooring.

The unit’s centerpiece is its expansive master bedroom, complete with an office and massive walk-in closet.

In total, it has five bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms, staff quarters with separate entrances and a 2,000-square-foot balcony, according to the listing.

Claudia Potamkin put the unit up for sale in 2012 because she wanted to downsize, the South Florida Business Journal reported. Three years after hitting the market — and roughly $1.9 million short of its original ask — Potamkin has closed the deal on her airy penthouse in the Grove.

The buyer is Andres E. Toro, who also owns unit 1902 in Grovernor House.

Coldwell Banker’s The Jills had the listing. The Jills did not immediately respond to calls for comment.
