    A bankruptcy judge in Miami on Wednesday approved the $41.5 million purchase of the former Versace mansion by the Nakash family of Jordache jeans fame partnering with the Gindis, former owners of the Plaza Hotel’s Oak Room.

    U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Laurel M. Isicoff approved the purchase by VM South Beach LLC. Joe Nakash, chairman of Jordache Enterprises, and New York real estate investor Eli Gindi, clenching a cigar, emerged from the auction, held in the courtyard of the highly decorated estate, as winner, besting competing bids by Donald Trump, who is renovating the Doral golf course, and Palm Beach club owner Glenn Straub.     UPDATED 11:06 a.m., Sept. 17: The Nakash family of Jordache jeans fame bought the Versace mansion at auction today, putting in a high bid of $41.5 million and announcing plans to convert the palatial Mediterranean-style estate into a hotel with the Versace name. [more]

    Glenn Straub, a developer who owns the Palm Beach Polo and Country Club, plans to bid for the former Versace mansion, which is scheduled to be auctioned tomorrow in a federal bankruptcy proceeding.

    Palm Beach Polo filed a notice of appearance with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Miami on Friday, according to the Miami Herald. [more]

    The trustee in charge of the liquidation of lawyer Scott Rothstein’s firm could not halt a Florida state court case over the former South Beach home of the late fashion designer Gianni Versace, Law360 reported.

    Bankruptcy Judge Raymond B. Ray allowed tenant 1116 Ocean Drive LLC and mortgage holder VM South Beach LLC to proceed with a lawsuit filed last month. Trustee Herbert Stettin argued that the tenant violated an automatic stay. Restaurateur Barton G., owner of 116 Ocean Drive LLC, denied the allegation in the lawsuit. [more]
