A former National Association of Realtors employee dropped a lawsuit accusing the group of racial and sexual discrimination and sexual harassment.

Janelle Brevard withdrew her complaint against the trade group, which in part alleged president Kenny Parcell had sexually harassed her and retaliated against her for ending the relationship, according to RISMedia. It’s unclear why Brevard, who worked as chief storyteller for NAR from 2019 to 2022, has abandoned the case.

Brevard had been seeking an award for lost pay and benefits, compensation for pain, suffering and emotional damages, and to be reinstated to her former post. Attorneys representing the former employee did not immediately respond to the outlet’s requests for comment.

Brevard alleged in her complaint that she began a relationship with Parcell while he was the group’s president-elect that included explicit conversations and requests for “sexual favors.” When she broke off the relationship last June, the complaint alleges, Parcell threatened to retaliate and began excluding her from meetings she normally would have participated in.

Three white female NAR employees had previously complained about Parcell, the complaint said, but Brevard was the only one fired after meeting with investigators.

The complaint detailed a “sexually hostile work environment” that resulted in an investigation while Parcell was president-elect, but claimed the now-president was not disciplined for the relationship despite not disclosing it.
