Steve Witkoff sells stake in real estate firm for $120M

Deal designed to alleviate possible conflicts of interest

Steve Witkoff Sells Stake in Real Estate Firm for $120M

Steve Witkoff followed through on his plan to divest from his eponymous real estate firm as he pursues a diplomatic career in Donald Trump’s administration, but questions about his financial ties remain.

Witkoff, the special envoy to both the Middle East and peace missions, sold a stake in his real estate company for $120 million, Bloomberg reported. Witkoff revealed the sale in a financial disclosure released over the weekend, geared at alleviating conflict of interest concerns.

Witkoff submitted his disclosure form last month, where it awaits approval from White House ethics officials. The form lists Witkoff’s start date as June 30, which is odd considering his work before then — and even before Trump’s inauguration — was well-publicized.

Witkoff listed six assets with values of $50 million and above, including the real estate firm. Other such assets include a home in Southampton, a shell company seemingly tied to a One High Line condominium and a hotel development in Chelsea.

Overall, Witkoff disclosed assets worth at least $350 million, likely well short of his true net worth.

Not fleshed out in the disclosure is Witkoff’s relation to World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency company his family co-founded with the Trumps before the president’s re-election. He didn’t specify how much he has earned from the venture, but did receive $34 million in distributions from a holding company that includes World Liberty Financial in its purview.

World Liberty Financial said in May that Witkoff would be divesting, but that has not happened yet.

Witkoff also has $31 million in debt, mostly tied up in aircraft loans.

His son Alex Witkoff assumed day-to-day responsibilities of the Witkoff Group earlier this year, taking over from Steve after three decades.

Steve has been jet-setting across the world in his role as a top diplomat for the Trump administration. He played a role in a brief ceasefire brokered between Hamas and Israel in January and has been at the center of communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
