What to expect from the Alexander brothers’ sex trafficking trial: Day two

Attorney cross-examining first witness alleging rape

Alexander Brothers Trial

It’s the second day of the federal sex trafficking trial against Oren, Alon and Tal Alexander. Here’s what we expect will happen today, Wednesday, Jan. 28.

Alon’s attorney, Howard Srebnick, is expected to pick back up on cross-examining the prosecution’s first witness, a woman who is using the pseudonym Katie Moore. Moore recounted allegedly being raped by Alon in 2012 after meeting him and Tal at actor Zac Efron’s apartment in the Meatpacking District.

Srebnick’s cross-examination of Moore’s testimony focused on her alcohol consumption that evening, her taking Molly (MDMA), and what she communicated to the friend she was with that night.

“Why didn’t Ainsley [Moore’s friend] take you home? What did you say to her to make you think it was OK to leave you?” Srebnick asked on Monday.

Moore, who is not one of the women with a civil lawsuit against the brothers, described a period of time where she blacked out after accepting a drink at a Manhattan club and woke up naked in bed with Alon, who, when she told him she did not want to have sex with him, he allegedly responded that “you already did” and he proceeded to rape her again, she claims.

Srebnick told Judge Valerie Caproni, who is overseeing the case, that he would need another 60 to 90 minutes to complete his cross-examination. Alexander Kahn, who is on Tal’s defense team, said he would be much more brief, needing about 15 minutes.

On the first day, Assistant U.S. Attorney Madison Reddick Smyser, Tal’s attorney Deanna Paul and Oren’s attorney Teny Geragos gave their opening remarks.

The second day of the trial is expected to resume at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. More witnesses are expected to testify after the conclusion of the cross-examination.

The brothers, who are being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, face minimum sentences of 15 years if convicted.
