“Nothing prepared me for reading these lawsuits and seeing these allegations actually spelled out.”
That was the reaction of many upon learning of the alleged misdeeds of the Alexander brothers, who are on trial in Manhattan on sex trafficking charges.
Former star brokers Oren and Tal Alexander, along with their brother Alon, began to face a jury in the Southern District of New York this week. Prosecutors allege the brothers participated in a years-long conspiracy between 2008 and 2021 that involved luring women to luxury destinations and drugging and sexually assaulting them.
All three have pleaded not guilty and have repeatedly denied the allegations.
The Real Deal was the first to report the story and today, we are introducing a documentary, produced by Nicole Guillen, chronicling the rise of the luxury brokers and how they ended up in a New York City courtroom facing severe charges that have drawn comparisons to cases involving Diddy and R. Kelly.
Tal and Oren Alexander were already rising stars in the industry when they brokered Ken Griffin’s penthouse purchase at 220 Central Park South in Manhattan, which remains the most expensive residential deal in United States history.
That launched them into another stratosphere and led them to branching out to Official, a business powered by Side. They presented an image of glitz and wealth, working with rich clients, flying on private planes and partying with prospective clients from New York to South Florida and Aspen.
But while they were becoming arguably the top luxury brokers in the country, rumors flew behind the scenes about bad behavior, both in the business world and beyond. Substantiating the rumors was difficult — that is, until TRD found a lawsuit, opening a floodgate for other accusers.
Follow along as Residential Bureau Chief Katherine Kallergis, reporter Sheridan Wall and Deputy Managing Editor Ellen Cranley detail how the Alexander brothers became such a big deal and how they landed in court. Kallergis also took a trip to Alon’s house for the first time since the brothers were arrested in a raid that went down by land and sea, via jet ski.
We plan to release more episodes in the coming weeks, so keep checking back with TRD for more coverage on the trial.
