The former head of Douglas Elliman’s Western region is joining Corcoran in New York City to work as an agent.
Stephen Kotler is joining the Kotler Team, which he founded at Elliman in 1991. He is joining his son Max, who moved from Elliman to Corcoran’s New York office in May and operates the eponymous team with broker Andrew Katzenberg.
Kotler rose the ranks during his time at Elliman in New York, at one point holding the title of chief operating officer before heading up its Western region beginning in 2016.
Kotler stepped down from that post in February. He briefly rejoined the Kotler Team at Elliman before it disbanded, with his son’s move to Corcoran. His brother Michael remained at Elliman with a seven-person group known as the Michael Kotler Team.
“The Kotler Team has always been a family business in a true sense,” Kotler said, adding that he will focus on “growing the team’s advisory and relocation platform.”
As of last month, Corcoran is under the purview of Compass International Holdings after Compass closed on its merger with Anywhere Real Estate, the holding company for a number of brands, including Corcoran.
The new holding company is expected to oversee over 340,000 agents, something Kotler said should only help to expand the coverage the team has for its relocation and destination services.
Kotler joins Elliman’s former CEO of brokerage, Scott Durkin, in making the move from Elliman’s executive team to Corcoran’s agent ranks. Durkin joined Corcoran in October, with plans to pick up his license in Florida and focus on serving clients in the equestrian world.
Corcoran has also brought on a number of high-profile agents and teams from Elliman, including Noble Black & Partners, who joined Corcoran in September, and Steven Cohen Team, who made the jump in October. Last spring, Kirsten Jordan brought her four-person team to Corcoran.
‘I’m excited to see a lot of my former colleagues from Elliman,” Kotler said.
