US’ most expensive home hits market in Aspen

California billionaires Stewart and Lynda Resnick seek $300M for winter estate

One of California’s most prominent billionaire couples is looking for a buyer for their estate in Aspen — and are out to break a record in the process.

Stewart and Lynda Resnick have listed their sprawling property near downtown Aspen for $300 million, SF Gate reported. If it sells for anywhere close to that price, it would set a record as the most expensive sale in the country. As it stands, it’s already the most expensive listing price for a home in U.S. history, beating out a $295 million listing in Naples, Florida, last year.

The Resnicks bought the property, dubbed Little Lake Lodge, in the early 1990s. It spans 74 acres at 161 Stillwater Road, with its own private lake complete with a swan paddle boat and sits next to miles of trails for hiking or cross-country skiing. An infinity-edge pool is also available for a buyer to use.

The main mansion is 18,500 square feet and boasts 30-foot ceilings, according to SF Gate. The home would come fully furnished. Because Aspen sits nearly 8,000 feet above sea level, the Resnicks installed a special oxygen system to prevent any altitude sickness while at home. Another unique custom-built feature: A special computer program dedicated to organizing housewares like dishes and napkin rings.

Besides the main house, guests can stay in a 5,286-square-foot guest house or two additional “alpine-inspired” abodes. The sale would also include plans for another residence that would be more than double the maximum home size allowed in the area. In total, the property has 18 bedrooms, 20 full bathrooms and four partial bathrooms.

In addition to Little Lake Lodge, the Resnicks also own a home in Beverly Hills and recently built a home near Santa Barbara, California. Maintaining three properties has become “just too hard” as they balance business and philanthropy work, Lynda told The Wall Street Journal.

Aspen is no stranger to pricey sales–the most expensive sale ever in the mountain town was last year when billionaires Steve Wynn and Thomas Peterffy teamed up to buy an estate at 419 Willoughby Way for $108 million.

The most expensive home sale in the U.S. was in 2019 when billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin bought three floors of a luxury Manhattan high-rise for $238 million. But Little Lake Lodge doesn’t have the new record in the bag; a mansion in Palm Beach County, Florida, that hasn’t even been built yet is currently listed for $285 million, per WSJ.
