RK Industries, a longtime Denver manufacturer specializing in construction services, is moving its headquarters outside the Mile-High City.

The manufacturer is planning to expand its headquarters into a 154,488-square-foot facility in Aurora, the Denver Business Journal reported. It will serve as a headquarters for four of the company’s eight business units, including its corporate headquarters.

In addition to RK Industries’ corporate office, it will move its headquarters operations for RK Mechanical, RK Service, RK Electrical and RK Foundation business units to Aurora. The expansion is estimated to add 1,786 jobs over the next eight years in sectors such as project engineering, finance, accounting and account management, according to the Business Journal, citing Colorado Department of Economic Development and International Trade.

The company’s current corporate headquarters is at 3800 Xanthia Street in Denver’s Central Park neighborhood. The location in Aurora has not been disclosed.

Today, the company boasts nearly 1,300 employees, more than 1,000 of whom live in Colorado and about 700 of whom already reside in Aurora, according to the Business Journal. RK Industries already has two facilities in Aurora, a fabrication space in Henderson, an office in Vail and a facility in Colorado Springs. It also maintains a presence in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.

The relocation has been in the works for more than two years as RK Industries worked with the Aurora Economic Development Council, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the City of Aurora and Adams County’s economic development program to finalize a path forward. That process included site selection, incentive negotiations and workforce development planning, The Sentinel Colorado reported

Choosing a site in the Denver area or Colorado in general wasn’t a given. RK considered locations in Texas and Arizona for its headquarters but ultimately went with Aurora due to its central location, existing facilities and nearly half of its workforce already living in the city.

“This relocation and expansion reflects how [the Aurora Economic Development Council was] able to match RK Industries’ business needs with Aurora’s strengths and assets,” Wendy Mitchell, president and CEO of the council, said in a statement.
