A Las Vegas landlord was shot dead after a heated confrontation with a tenant over an eviction, according to local police.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police homicide lieutenant Robert Price said the deadly argument occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday on the 3600 block of North Campbell Road near West Gowan Road, KLAS reported.
LVMPD says four people lived in the home, including the landlord. What started as a debate between roommates with the landlord trying to evict one of them quickly escalated into the man pulling out a gun and shooting the landlord several times, Price said.
Police found the victim, a man in his late 30s, on the kitchen floor. He suffered several gunshot wounds. Both police and medical personnel attempted to deliver medical care but he was declared dead on the scene.
Another roommate was also home at the time of the incident and called 911. No other injuries were reported.
When confronted by police, the suspect apparently didn’t put up a fight.
“The suspect came out [of the house] and he was taken into custody without incident,” Price said, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Homicide detectives are conducting an investigation into the shootout.
It’s the latest deadly shooting in the Las Vegas area in the past month.
On May 23, 36-year-old Kyle Capucci reportedly shot 21-year-old David Carcamo at an AutoZone Auto Parts at 1201 East Charleston Boulevard. That shooting happened after Carcamo reportedly began acting “erratic” while openly carrying a firearm in the store, prompting Capucci to grab the gun from his waist, KVVU reported.
Earlier this month, a man opened fire at the Las Vegas Athletic Clubs location at 1725 North Rainbow Boulevard. According to the Review-Journal, on May 16, 34-year-old Daniel Ortega shot and killed club manager Edgar Quinonez and injured three others before LVMPD officers shot the gunman dead. Assistant sheriff Jamie Prosser said Ortega’s rifle jamming potentially averted a mass casualty event.
