The residential development of the Financial District has surged ahead so strongly in the past three and a half years that some question how the character of the nation’s third leading commercial district might be changing. Downtown has had a struggle attracting and keeping commercial real estate tenants. As a case in point, despite the state scrapping plans to Build A West Street tunnel, Goldman, Sachs & Co. continues to look elsewhere in Manhattan than Downtown for its headquarters, according to The Daily News. more [NYT]
