United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan may move the bureaucratic behemoth into temporary housing in Brooklyn while its headquarters on the East River in Manhattan are being renovated. The UN’s existing locale has asbestos, lead paint, outmoded plumbing and electrical systems and a shortage of sprinklers. The UN’s original relocation plan a move into a new $330 million, 35-story building one block south of Current Headquarters On First Avenue And 42nd Street was upset by poor timing among state lawmakers in Albany.
