Beekman Theatre to close Sunday

The famed Beekman Theatre on Second Avenue on the Upper East Side is slated to show its last film Sunday evening “The Interpreter,” starring Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman. Opened in 1952, the Beekman was a cinematic landmark in New York for decades, featured in TV shows and movies set in the city. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the theater’s landlord, wants to use the space for an outpatient care center. more [Reuters]
