Housing starts up nationwide in September

Residential construction increased in September, according to figures released today by the Commerce Department. Privately owned housing starts increased 3.4 percent nationwide in September. The seasonally adjusted rate for September was 2.189 million, an increase not only over August, but a 10.3 percent increase over September 2004. Single-family housing starts were at a rate of 1.747 million in September, a 2.6 percent increase over August.
