A changing proposal spurs questions

The Atlantic Yards project in Prospect Heights looks today very similar to how it looked when developer Forest City Ratner first unveiled it in 2003. Very similar but not exactly the same. The project’s size has increased by more than 1 million square feet and its dollar cost by 40 percent. The amount of commercial space originally proposed has dropped in favor of for-sale residential and a hotel, and nearly three-fourths of the office jobs originally anticipated as part of the project have disappeared. Some are calling these changes between 2003 and 2005 a bait and switch. The developer calls them normal. more [NYT]
