Bloomberg vetoes Council’s Commission veto

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has stepped into the developing fray over the Austin, Nichols Warehouse at 184 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg. Earlier this week, the mayor vetoed the City Council’s revocation of the landmark designation given to the warehouse by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Got it? A Bloomberg spokesman said the mayor thought the council was wrong to disapprove of the designation because the 1915 warehouse is a significant example of architect Cass Gilbert’s work. more [NYT]
