Original buyers vs. latecomers in co-ops

Can co-ops have a different set of rules for original buyers and another set for those who bought into the co-op later on? Not really, but it’s possible. State law prohibits the unequal treatment of shareholders holding the same class of shares, and all shareholders in a co-op usually hold the same class of shares. more [NYT]
