Javits Center expansion approved

The expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center was unanimously approved on Wednesday by the state Public Authority Control Board, clearing its final hurdle toward moving forward. By 2010, the exhibition space at the Javits Center will expand from 760,000 to 1.1 million square feet — a 45 percent increase. And meeting room space will go up by 600 percent to 210,000 square feet, according to the city. The expansion, too, is expected to spur further development on that slice of the far West Side.
