The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation is calling for the creation of a South Village Historic District. The district would cover the area south of West Fourth Street to West Houston Street between Seventh Avenue and LaGuardia Place, with an extension from West Houston Street down to Watts Street between Sixth Avenue and West Broadway. “The South Village Historic District would really be the city’s first largely tenement-based historic district and the first to focus largely on…the history of a home to immigrants, especially Italian-Americans,” said Andrew Berman, executive director of the society. more [Villager]
