Construction is apparently beginning on the site of St. Ann’s Church in the East Village. NYU is building a 26-story dorm on the property, at East 12th Street, which will be connected to the back of the church. An air-rights transfer allowed for the development of the tower, which will be one of the tallest in the East Village. St. Ann’s was built in 1847, and community activists unsuccessfully campaigned the LPC to landmark the structure in 2004 in order to stymie redevelopment efforts. more [Curbed]
