The historic Apthorp building on the Upper West Side is slated to go condo following a purchase by Africa Israel Investments of a 50 percent stake in the property. The high-end rental building, which takes up an entire block off West 79th Street and Broadway, has housed celebrity residents including Al Pacino and Conan O’Brien. The Apthorp was purchased by Maurice Mann and a group of investors back in November for $426 million. Africa Israel Investments is paying around $2.4 million an apartment for the 163-unit building, which is the most ever paid for a residential building in the United States. more [WSJ]
