The sale of six Jehovah’s Witness properties in Brooklyn Heights will likely fetch around $60 million, according to an estimate by Jean Austin of Brooklyn Bridge Realty. Austin believes the religious group will get $35 million just from the sale of 169 Columbia Heights. The Witnesses own some 30 buildings in Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo that they began buying up in the ’80s and ’90s. “They bought their buildings for their own use, not looking to cash out, at a time when the market was dead and you couldn’t give real estate away in this area,” said Andy Gerringer, managing director of Prudential Douglas Elliman Developments. “I don’t know if it was savvy investing, luck or divine intervention.” more [Post]
