Bill looks to rein in BSA

City Councilman Tony Avella is reviving a bill he tried to pass in 2003 that will create an oversight committee for the largely unregulated Board of Standards and Appeals. The BSA is a board of five mayoral appointees who review appealed building proposals denied by the Department of Buildings because they violate zoning codes. The board is able green light projects that don’t conform to city codes. According to Mr. Avella, the board “is out of control, and there’s no appeals process outside of privately suing.” Avella has called a hearing on the bill scheduled for this Tuesday. more [Times Ledger via Queens Crap]
