Activist wants Brooklyn tunnel, trolleys restored

With Downtown Brooklyn developing rapidly, an activist is calling for the restoration of trolleys and the re-opening of an Atlantic Avenue tunnel built way back in 1844. Brooklyn Historic Railway Association president Bob Diamond has pushed for re-using the tunnel since he found it in 1979. He says the trolley could run through the still solid tunnel, which he says was “overbuilt,” from the waterfront to Boerum Place, where its old opening was paved over. It would then continue along above ground and connect to downtown subway stops. more [NYDN]
