Repairs at 524 East 72nd Street are nearing completion, almost a year after New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle’s fatal plane crash into a 40th floor apartment at the Upper East Side building. One-hundred of the Belaire’s 137 units sustained smoke or water damage, and 28 floors needed new carpeting, wallpaper and doors. The restoration took longer than expected because several dozen windows on the 72nd Street side of the building had to be specially made.
