Preservationists are gearing up to fight Columbia University’s planned
expansion into West Harlem. Threatened buildings include Prentis Hall,
a century-old dairy plant; 12th Avenue track beds that date to 1885;
the Studebaker Building, an art deco facility for an automaker; and the
Sheffield Farms Stable, rejected by the Landmarks Preservation
Commission but on the national and state register of historic places.
