Immigrants, including Caribbean and African borrowers in New York, were
a target of real estate professionals leading up to the subprime
mortgage meltdown, especially if they were paying high rents. A lawsuit
filed in California Superior Court alleges that real estate agents,
lenders and mortgage brokers targeted “vulnerable immigrants,”
falsified financial records, forged documents and deceived borrowers
about their mortgages’ actual costs.
