Once grand plans for expanding the Javits Center on the far West Side could be scrapped as the city’s hotel association opposes a tripling of the hotel tax that would fund the expansion. The association has pushed for an expansion since the center opened in 1986. But it says if the expansion lacks funding, only the leaking roof should be fixed and the façade should be rebuilt. The project’s price tag topped $3 billion this summer.
