A federal study of 10 historic homes in the Brooklyn Navy Yard known as
Admiral’s Row reports that they are in stronger shape than believed and
could be saved, but would take about $20 million to restore. The city
wants to tear down the old officer’s homes and build a supermarket. “If
the federal government…requires that some or all of these structures
be rebuilt from the ground up…neither the City of New York or the
[Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corp.] are interested in acquiring and
developing the site and it will continue to lay fallow for years to
come,” Navy Yard Development Corp. President Andrew Kimball wrote
yesterday.
