Construction to begin soon on Brooklyn Bridge Park

Construction could begin soon on the long-awaited Brooklyn Bridge Park.
The $18 million first phase calls for the demolition of the historic
Purchase Building, the temporary headquarters for the Office of
Emergency Management after its Manhattan office was destroyed on Sept.
11, 2001. The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the
demolition. “This is the first major step in constructing this park,
and we’re very proud to be moving forward,” said newly-appointed
Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corp. President Regina Myer. The $150
million park will eventually run for 1.3 miles.
