Nets won’t play in Brooklyn in ’09

The New Jersey Nets have committed to playing the 2009-2010 NBA season
at the Izod Center in the Meadowlands and not the planned Barclays
Center arena in Brooklyn’s Atlantic Yards. A team spokesman confirmed
the delay after the Nets missed a Dec. 31 deadline to notify the New
Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority that it would not stay for the
season that begins in the fall of 2009. Nearly 20 buildings have been
demolished to clear the way for the Brooklyn arena. If ground is not
broken by summer, the arena might not open in time for the 2010 season.
