Gov. Eliot Spitzer, in his state of the state address, has called for “the biggest housing initiative in a generation,” a $400 million Housing Opportunity Fund that would pay for affordable and supportive housing. Spitzer also said he would file legislation to add protections for homeowners facing foreclosure. To crack down on mortgage scams, the governor vowed to work with state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to toughen anti-fraud laws. He called the subprime mortgage crisis “a massive federal regulatory failure,” according to his prepared speech. As expected, Spitzer called for renaming the Triborough Bridge the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge. TRD
