While work at Trump Soho has been halted since a crane accident killed one worker on Monday, critics say it a recent spate of safety violations should have led to the project being shut down before the accident ever happened. The development has been halted four times since September, but for no longer than nine days. A hearing for an October crane violation was scheduled for this week (Buildings Department hearings are scheduled for within 90 days after safety violations). “When a building has a major violation, it has to be resolved quickly,” said Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer. “We close down restaurants for fruit fly violations quicker than we shut down potentially dangerous construction sites.” According to a New York Daily News report, city officials say the wooden supports that collapsed did not meet industry standards.
