Gov. Eliot Spitzer has created the New York State Commission on
Property Tax Relief, which will examine why the state’s property taxes
are high and recommend ways to reduce them. “We need to explore new
approaches, including reducing unfunded mandates and placing a cap on
the growth of school property taxes,” Spitzer said. The commission,
headed by Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, will have subpoena
powers.
