The city Planning Commission is expected to approve today developer Sheldon Solow’s $4 billion plan to build six residential towers with about 4,000
apartments and one office tower near the United Nations. The commission
is expected to call for reductions in height and density and for
commitments to affordable housing. A planned building on the west side
of First Avenue could be reduced from to 600 feet from 721 feet.
