The Hudson River Park Trust’s board delayed a vote on Related Co.’s
$618 million proposal for an entertainment complex at Pier 40, dubbed
by critics as “Las Vegas on the Hudson.” With a home for Cirque de
Soleil, the complex could draw 2.7 million annual visitors. A rival
proposal developed by residents, the Pier 40 Partnership, would
preserve the playing fields and include a school and arts and events
spaces. It would expand the parking facilities to help generate
revenue. That plan would cost $255 million.
