Foreclosures spiked in January 

All five boroughs saw a spike in foreclosures in January, according to PropertyShark.com. Even Manhattan, which has managed to keep the tide of foreclosures at bay, saw an 80 percent jump in foreclosures last month, compared to December. Staten Island had the biggest surge, as foreclosure auctions jumped 184 percent, while Queens soared by 150 percent. The Bronx had the lowest increase at 14 percent.
