Builders offer price guarantees to woo buyers

To counter the housing slump, builders are creating “price protection” guarantees to buyers. The guarantees promise buyers who sign a contract that they can pay a lower price if the value of comparable homes drops suddenly. Companies are hoping to profit from these deals by decreasing cancellation rates and encouraging buyers to close deals. The move comes after efforts to attract buyers with lower prices and added freebies fizzled.
